Chung
Do Kwan is the first of the modern Korean Tae Kwon Do Kwans (schools),
established at the end of World War II.. The word Chung Do means
"blue wave". According to Sa bu Nim Yong Taek Chung, who was among the
first black belt students of Chung Do Kwan founder Great Grand Master
Won Kuk Lee, Chung Do also conveys the meaning of the power of a stone
thrown in the water, and the quietness that ensues when the ripples
gradually die down. Chung Do Kwan's forms and techniques are
characterized by powerful blocks, kicks and punches. Its philosophy
centers around discipline, self-improvement and self defense.
